posted by CenterBHSFanThanks for clarifying, I just wanted to understand.
I believe Israel has the right to exist. I get that people don't like the reasons it was established or how. Buy those same people would have Neuro death spasms if they thought about how every country was established. It is what it is.
I don’t disagree with this sentiment. I just don’t like being on the hook for one specific country over the others because some people interpret their religious text a certain way. Amish believe in simplicity - good for them, I don’t want it. Seventh Day Adventists believe in no meat - good for them, but it’s not for me. Many hard-core Evangelicals believe they are fulfilling their responsibilities on earth by protecting Israel - no problem with them doing that, but not everyone chooses to make that a basis for their life. We all shouldn’t be on the hook for it.
posted by majorsparkI just have a sense the Washington establishment does not like this guy. Its not because they think he is a warmonger. Its because they have doubts he can be controlled. Either because they think he may be is a "yes man" or they think he is a principled man in a way they don't like. Just my sense when I see this spray of across the spectrum boogieman labels.
Boogie is even throwing it out there the dude might be a KJV only guy.
I never called him a warmonger. He has clearly taken his view of Israel from his religious beliefs (coming from the Christian bible). I’m not in favor of the position we’re already in with Israel. It is not in our country’s best interest to have someone with input to military strategy who believes keeping the Promised Land with the Chosen People is a priority for the rest of us, and something the US should participate in.

Another mess Trump will have to clean up, among many many.
A BS move by Biden - I agree. But Trump committed to ending the war 24 hours post election. What happened there?
Besides Huckabee in Jerusalem, you've got Hegwerth at DoD who also espouses the Jews as "God's Chosen People". Since he tends to lead with this philosophy in sketching out his world view, I guess we can assume we'll have yet another uber Christian who will utilize the King James Version when contributing to US military priorities. So I guess we will continue to pay the tab literally and figuratively for the Zionist experiment.

posted by CenterBHSFanI don't think having a faith in God is the problem.
It's when these people fade faith into politics and obeying the machine is where the problems come into play. Then it's not about faith.
On the other hand, I can't argue too much about the nut bags comment.
Let's face it, God isn't coming to these people to command them to slaughter and devastation.
My exception isn't that he has faith in God. It's that he's an outspoken "look at me" evangelical. Many evangelicals are passionate about Israel - not because of any sense of global or political purposes. It is because they believe that God truly told the Jews they were his "Chosen" and that Israel is the "Promised Land" intended for them by scripture. So having a guy like this in a position like ambassader to Israel runs the risk of having our US representative's actions there dictated by the Old Testament.
posted by sportchamppsI wouldn’t include Deedee in that. Supposedly he bough the crew so she could have a team to manage. Her management is probably the best in MLS.
Whether or not that is true, I would prefer they both go far away from NE Ohio.
posted by Laley23I like Stefanski. I dont want him fired. But 2-3-4 wins and he will not be retained.
I like Stefanski too. I think he's a great coach. But he made not be the culture changer needed. Frankly it doesn't matter so long as Jimmy and Dee Dee pay the bills.

I have absolutely no faith that Trump intends to stop war. That means not only in Israel but Ukraine too.
Huckabee, Hegseth, Rubio = war
Great - a born again evangelical getting mixed up in God's holy land. We don't need anymore religious nut bags over there then already are.

posted by iclfan2Agreed with all of the above. They’re a bunch of losers. Belichek wants to come back to coaching, bring him back and a new gm and fix this shit. I’m so tired of being so bad, forever. I was only vaguely aware of the Kosar era, born in 86, so all I know is this shittiness of 99 onward, with a bit of nostalgia before that. Ha still have an old Kosar jersey, but man can we ever be good for more than a year randomely?
Not with Jimmy and Dee Dee at the helm.
Think about this…
Imagine being a stupid enough businessman that you pick this fall - in light of the team’s performance and the effects of the Watson trade - to push a hard sell on a new 50% taxpayer funded dome. Goes to show inherited wealth is no indicator of common sense.
Jimmy, please sell. It’s been a failed experiment for you. Go collect cars or horses or some other hobby.

Big day for the underdogs. I was really pulling for Luke Fickell to get the big win. But Oregon is a great team - that pulled out a gutsy win on the road. Tennessee got found out as did BYU. Can’t wait until the showdown next week at the Shoe.
BTW, “Jump Around” at the end of the third quarter at Wisconsin is awesome. We desperately need to move on from “Hang on Sloopy”. It’s time has passed.

Pitt’s coach doesn’t have control
3 consecutive defensive offsides on 3rd 21
4 false starts last week in 7 plays
3 delay of game penalties and back to back ones coming out of a timeout
Had ball late in 1st half and snapped ball with 29 seconds left and allowed Clemson a long FG, which was pivotal
3rd and goal from the 1 and they settled for a 40 yard FG
Pitt should’ve easily won that game. Virginia fucked them last week with a dirty shot to the QB and he’s still out. Pitt isn’t that good but should damn well be 9-1, but oh well. Was a fun atmosphere and I get to see my kid.
I feel for you. Pitt gave that away. The disorganization on that offense was criminal. To have friggin’ Dabo on the ropes and let him and that jerkoff quarterback of his get away with a win - oh man.
Pitt is just barely on the wrong side of being a really good team.

posted by ptown_trojans_1America assumed the responsibility to protect and defend democracy around the world post World War II. The era of peace and prosperity we have endured since World War II is a result of that.
America should protect and defend democracy around the globe...within reason of course. Ukraine should not be abandoned, but should be encouraged to seek a fair and reasonable solution.
Israel should still be a key US ally, but likewise, within reason.
That’s the myth that keeps this insane military spending going.
There have not been any more Western European wars during that time, but there have been Eastern European wars (like the current one), multiple major Asian wars (one of which we were the primary cause of casualties and still lost), major civil wars in Africa, ongoing guerrila wars in South America, large wars in the Middle East where we were one of the biggest instigator of casualties…the list goes on. Many of those places we fought not because of some altruistic aim to defend democracy, but to defend our economic interests and our prestige.

posted by CenterBHSFanIt's interesting because a few years ago the Dems loved Musk because of his electric cars thing.
But, then he bought Twitter and kicked out the interference of govt spooks. Now the Dems pretend their skin is melting off at the mere mention of his name.
He is definitely a polarizing man.
Guys like him push innovation forward. I just and watching 'Mericans loving on him.
I know you'll counter that he is hated by left wingers, but they're not appointing him to the head of a government commission, so that's why I mentioned mit from the MAGA context. It's okay to laugh about the MAGA crowd once in awhile without doing a "whatabout" on the "dems" - really.
I'm looking forward to what Musk may be able to do.
On a personal side, I have to laugh about the number of MAGA people in my life (including immediate family) who HATED musk only a few years ago because he was "getting rich of government subsidies" and was sponging off of government largesse. I was told yesterday by one of these fine fellows that he is, in fact brilliant. When I pointed out the this person was one of the people who had trashed him, he said (paraphrasing) "That goes to show how brilliant he is. He knew how to use the liberals and he was so good at it, he even fooled me."
